Background:    This gene encodes an enzyme found in the perinuclear Golgi which catalyzes the synthesis of UDP-xylose used in glycosaminoglycan (GAG) synthesis on proteoglycans. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
